After night drive from Bayramuren to Istanbul, whole day side seeing and another night driver to Sopot and repacking to the care and other day and partly night driving to Kopaonik in Serbia we reached our destination at 2:30. I was in shock. I didn’t know if I lost the way and some how landed somewhere in French mountains or I’m having hallucinations due to lack of sleep. It was different Serbia then I knew. Everything clean and new. Every house in similar style with white walls and dark wooden elements. So beautiful! We climbed with car up to around 2000 m. It was cold outside and quiet. Event organization team waited us in HQ. They offered cold beer and brought us to our accommodation. We got fantastic rum with small kitchen. Whole included in entry fee. I couldn’t believe!
Next day we went to the take off which was big but quaint flat mellow. Wind in my opinion was too strong but task comity decided to set the task. Finely it was decided one of more experienced pilots try to fly and see the conditions. He landed and said it’s not good so with consultations with us foreign pilots it was decided to cancel the task. On other day we visited other take off. During the event we have flown 3, out of 5 possible, valid tasks. The atmosphere was fantastic. Very nice people and great organization. They shown that with good spirit and cooperation between clubs everything is possible even it pour country like Serbia. Place of competitions remind me our Beskid mountains in Poland. It’s tricky and it’s hard to fly long tasks. But the surrounding is so beautiful.
On one evening organisation arranged transportation to Ravca for concert of Balkanika, it was just great fun! So many people and good musik.
Kopaonik is bid ski resort where many national teams (basket boll, valley boll…) comes for training. Clean and piece full mountains. Great destination for holidays and relax flying. And local people with great spirit. Guys don’t lose it!

During 5 day’s we hale flown 5 tasks, however I think the last one wasn’t necessary. Wind was very strong and with this valley I didn’t want to experience landing on the bottom, so I decided to not fly. But one after another.
As I wrote before Byramoren lies on the bottom of big valley. The landscape looks to me peaty raw. Local pilots do done a good job by creating good take off’s: one to south one to north, what aloud to fly with most of winds here. During the week we where taking of from bought of them and flying away of the valley on the flats in to south. I must admit it was very strange to me to fly like this. Imagine you have flat land with small hills what lies peaty high and valley which looks more like huge long hole in the ground created by the power of river. Most of time we where taking off on the same altitude as landed and some times we where landing even higher. For me flying there is tricky and it takes some time to understand hoe it works there. A spatially cause on afternoon see breeze, which is very strong, crashes in to the area and blows whole thermals away. It can blow you in to the big flat mountains in to the south as well and than you have long walk in front of you to get back to the civilization. SO during the flying you not only thin how to winn but what happen if you risk too much and need to walk for a day.
During the comp most of pilots if go to land they chose to do it on the flats on south side above the valley. It meant to be on prery and looked like long walk but retrieve guys where very kind to pick us up in every hole we landed so even if it took long time to get back home they never left anyone in fields.
Flying in Bayramoren was strong experience with very narrow and strong thermals in the valley and smooth thermals in the flats. The problem if we where on south take off was see breeze coming every day and if you waited too long no chance to take off. On second task this breeze was very early and strong and several pilots got no time any more to take off. But it was only they fault because first 30 min of open window no one took off. I could feel how strong is the breeze even high above the take off when I was taking turn point up there. Thermal was very strong, typical for lee side thermals. I just wanted to escape from there.
As I said the last task wasn’t necessary but it was flown. Wind was very strong on the taka off. Still flyable but to me not taskable. Luckly nothing happen to any one. Only one French pilot (very experienced one) got little adventure on that day landing in the little canyon on side of the valley and walked long time thru the bushes. He said he felt like Indiana Jones.
I think to fly in this place you need exactly know what you are doing. It’s difficult place to fly and it can be interesting to see how PWC pilots handle this conditions.
Potential of this place was shown by 2 pilots who have flown over 200 km on training day. It was: Slavomir Matras and Yassen Savov. They break the record of the place and win some money too.
As a Team Poland we took with Janusz Guzowski, Bartosz Moszczynski, Slavomir Matras and me first place.
